ABOUT US
Although Seattle People of Color Salon or "SPoCS" as it's been called is a new effort to build and reaffirm community among people of color in the Seattle and surrounding area, similar efforts have been made throughout the history of this area.
Our gatherings allow people of color to find comfort and material support in each other's company. We host regular +Allies events and ask respectfully that our white allies support us by attending those events.
There is a lived experience of being a person of color in Seattle that extends beyond the limits of any individual's imagination. We realize the breadth of "People of Color" and embrace the multivalence of this grouping. We come from different backgrounds, speak different languages, eat different kinds of food, and are as unique and varied as any people can be, but what we find in each other that is the same is a quality of lived empathy and understanding that helps us to be stronger and more capable of thriving in the Seattle area.
It can be lonely in Seattle, but you can always find a friendly face (and a lot of other life-giving experiences) at SPoCS.
